If Camilla Cavendish wants to understand “Johnsonism” (“The prime minister’s plan makes Thatcherites nervous” Opinion, July 4) and what the PM stands for, she merely should have read Simon Kuper’s brilliant analysis in the FT Magazine (“The politicians who played Covid-19 crisis badly”, July 4).

Not Churchill, as the prime minister hopelessly miscast himself at the start of the crisis or, even more inaccurately, Roosevelt, by promising some long overdue yet still hugely insufficient repairs to roads, schools and hospitals. No, Mr Kuper sums it up expertly: “ignorant nationalist bullshitter”.
